Contact Sally & Jim
Sally and Jim worked for Hewlett Packard's Medical Products Division, (later spun-off as part of Agilent Technologies) until Jim retired in 2000 and Sally followed in 2001. For years they traveled for the company and always tried to stay in a Bed & Breakfast or Country Inn where they enjoyed the Innkeepers and guests alike.
Sally was anxious to run her own B&B and Jim was willing to support her endeavor. For several years prior to leaving Agilent, they took aspiring innkeepers courses and searched for just the right old New England farm to turn into a bed and breakfast. In April of 1999, with a “land for sale” ad in hand and the prospects of a 3 hour drive back to Massachusetts, they decided to look at one more piece of property, walked up the 0.6 mile woods road to the top of Mt. Eustis, stepped out into the meadow, caught their breath at the view, and never turned back.
They moved to St. Johnsbury, VT (where Jim grew up, no less!), 20 minutes away, in a small house with all their personal belongings from a 4-bedroom home; furniture, antiques and various collections all boxed, catalogued and stored away in several sheds and a basement for what was supposed to be about a year. That was in August 2001. The building was livable by early 2006 and they opened the Inn in May. It’s been a tremendous undertaking with a couple of false starts and lots of blood, sweat and tears and of course you’re never really finished with any home. There are still many projects on the drawing board and the future looks as busy as ever.
